Both. Somm Scribe starts as a wine journal where you can record the wines you try and what you thought of them. As your journal grows, Somm Scribe can use your tasting history and preferences to provide personalized wine recommendations.
Yes. Somm Scribe is designed to make wine easier to understand without requiring expert knowledge or complicated tasting vocabulary. You can start with simple observations about what you liked, what you did not like and whether you would buy the wine again.
No. You do not need to know grape varieties, regions or professional tasting terms to get started. Somm Scribe is designed to help you learn as you go and build confidence based on the wines you actually drink.

Create a new tasting and enter the wine information you know, such as the name, vintage, grape or region. You can also add a rating, tasting notes, preferences, tags and a photo so you can easily remember the wine later.
Start with what will help you remember the bottle later: the wine name, your rating, what you liked or disliked and whether you would buy it again. You can also record details such as grape, region, aromas, flavors, body, acidity and tannins if you want to go deeper.
A wine taste profile is a picture of the styles, grapes, regions and characteristics you tend to enjoy. Somm Scribe uses the preferences and tasting history you build over time to help identify patterns in your taste.
Yes. The wines you log and the preferences you record help Somm Scribe build a better understanding of your taste. Over time, patterns in the wines you enjoy can be used to make your recommendations more relevant.

Somm Scribe uses information from your wine profile and the wines you have logged to suggest wines that fit your preferences. Recommendations are designed around what you actually enjoy rather than relying only on general ratings or popularity.
Yes. The more useful tasting information you add, the more information Somm Scribe has about your preferences. As your wine journal grows, recommendations can become better aligned with the wines and styles you enjoy.
You can begin building your wine preferences without a large tasting history, but logging wines gives Somm Scribe more information about what you actually enjoy. Your recommendations can become more personalized as you add tastings and preferences.
Yes. Somm Scribe lets eligible users save personalized recommendations so they can return to wines they want to remember or try later.

Yes. With supported plans, you can upload a photo of a wine bottle or label when creating a tasting. Somm Scribe can use the image to help fill in wine information automatically, saving you time when logging a bottle.
Yes. Somm Scribe makes it easier to return to wines you have logged so you can remember what you drank, what you thought of it and whether you would choose it again.
Yes. Somm Scribe includes beginner-friendly information about grapes, regions and wine styles so you can learn as you build your journal. The Somm Scribe blog also includes practical wine guides designed for people who want to understand wine without overcomplicating it.

Yes. The Free plan lets you save up to 10 tastings and includes tools for viewing, editing and organizing your wines. Paid plans add features such as unlimited tastings, image-based autofill and personalized recommendations.
Pro includes everything in the Free plan plus unlimited tastings, automatic field filling from wine images and access to additional learning resources.
The Somm plan includes everything in Pro plus a customizable profile, personalized wine recommendations, saved recommendations and access to new features.
Open your Account settings and select the plan you want to upgrade to. You'll be taken through the secure checkout process and your upgraded features will become available after your subscription is activated.
Yes. You can cancel your subscription from your Account settings. You'll continue to have access to your paid features through the end of your current billing period.
Somm Scribe uses Stripe to securely process subscription payments. Major credit cards and debit cards are accepted.

Tasting note export is not currently available. If you need help accessing your Somm Scribe data, contact support@sommscribe.com.
Your Somm Scribe tasting notes and account information are private to your account. Somm Scribe uses security measures designed to protect your information. See the Privacy Policy for additional information about how your data is handled.
Select Forgot Password from the sign-in page and enter the email address associated with your account. You'll receive instructions for resetting your password.
You can delete your account from your Account settings. Account deletion is permanent and removes the data associated with your account, so make sure you no longer need your tasting history before continuing.
